In a land of "push" where everybody push, what can the helpless me do, except learn to push back?
Seriously I wonder with me living my life as a typical Shanghainese ; riding the public transportation such as bus, MRT, train and such, will all the social etiquette I learnt, flush down the toilet bowl?
This is basically my daily "push" routine ;
1. Taking train to work. People pushing you from behind to get into the train. And I have to push people in front to move forward.
2. Transiting into a bus. People rushing to get onto the bus. People push and shove you aside (sometimes also elbow) in order to get up the bus. So to retaliate I also push and shove people so that I also, can get up the bus. Or sometimes in my frustration I push people because they are attempting to cut my queue.
3. Pushing my way along the bus aisle to get to the exit door.
4. Taking train back home at super peak hour 6.00pm. Repeat step no 1, except it is so crowded that people rudely just push and shove you to get into the train.
5. Getting of out the train equals to squeezing and shoving your way through to be near the exit door before the next stop so that you can get out of the door in time. (This step I forgot to state in step 1) This step is very critical otherwise you will not be able to get off the train, see my explanation below) Many tourists were trapped because they were not prepared for the incoming flux of people rushing in when the door open.
6. Some idiots waiting to enter the train at the next stations will just stand along the door opening blocking our way out. To make the matter worse, they attempt to rush in when the door opens before waiting for people to alight. I don't understand why they are so stupid to do that. Because if we can't get out, means there is no space for u to get it! But they don't care, they still push their way through. In the end, I have to push, shove and elbow my way out of the train.
7. Along the way to escalator, some idiots will just push you, just to be able to reach the escalators or stairs earlier or on top of the line. Occasionally, I also had to push people away from me, or like yesterday elbowed people because he elbowed me.
8. Exiting from the station and lining up to exit the turnstile. Sometimes you have to be push along and do some shoving to retain your queue. Otherwise, some idiots will quickly jump infront of you.
So with so much practices I have to do everyday, I can't help but be an expert in pushing.
And to my horror, this is widely accepted and men do it to women too. I wonder how many light years China would have to take to turn its people to behave like civilisation.
